Thank you for sending your teenager to the Dicksboro Youth Development camp over the last 3 days.
The week started with a great motivational talk from club man & Dicksboro Snr hurling manager Michael Walsh
Michael spoke of the values & importance of what it takes to be a teammate & the importance of team work.
Eoin Molloy again a valued clubman with girls playing at underage level, gave a great workshop on nutrition and the importance of fluid intake & hydrationโฆ& yes!!! he told them to personalise their fluids and add sugar & salt to their water for matches.
This was followed by a pitch session where Philly, our great GPO, had different stations set up to work on first touch.
Tuesday started off with a walk around the gym to show them what will be available to them once they become of age before heading to the pitch for a 20 station strength & conditioning workout with Catherine where they were shown the correct technique on performing exercises using their own body weight.
Physio Shane OโBrien was next up & gave an absolutely outstanding session on the importance of rest & recovery, stretching & foam rolling, this was planned nicely following the S & C class. Shane works with the senior county hurlers so we were privileged to have him out to give his expertise. This session included a workshop followed by a practical in foam rolling, it was very interesting & beneficial for all.
We had a visit from our very own Padraig Moylan & captain of the u20 All Ireland 2022 winning team.Padraig spoke about what it takes to get to the level he is at. He kindly answered every question he was asked & he was a real hit with all.
Questions includedโฆhow does he deal with pre match nervesโฆdoes he have his winning speech made outโฆif he wins the coin toss, how does he choose which way to play & so on, so on
Philly had them back on the pitch where they played small sided games for the last 20 minutes before heading home.
Wednesday started indoors with a quiz compiled by our great quizmaster Davy Ryan. Mixed teams were formed & they stayed in these teams for the day. General knowledge, sport, audio & visual questions & a round on what they had learned from the previous days from the various guest speakers were asked. Team points from the quiz were then added to the results of the relay races & competitions on the pitch which included sidelines, frees & crossbar challenges before announcing the winning team & the team placed 2nd. Everyone was treated to a much deserved energy drink, ice lolly & a jelly burger before heading home.
Well done & thank you to everyone for a wonderful 3 days.
