U13 Championship Update

Dicksboro U13 C’s at their best against a gallant St Martins

U13 C Championship 1st Round

Venue: Coon Co. Kilkenny

September 3rd, 2021, 6.00pm.

Dicksboro 6-12 St Marins 1-2

Dicksboro U13 C panel got their championship account off to a great start as they powered to a convincing win against our country neighbours St Martins in the highlands of Coon this evening.

After a 5 minute exchange of rucks and getting to know each other, Dicksboro roared into the lead with a finely taken point from the hard working Mickey Brennan on the 5th minute. This was followed quickly by a lobbed goal shot and score by sharp shooter Donal O’Neill at corner forward. A well taken free by Mickey Brennan and two excellent long range points from play by lightning fast mid-fielder Tom Henderson left it 1-4 to no score at the first water break.

The second quarter brought more of the same with Dicksboro centre back and man of the match Jamie Cassen scoring a goal from a 65 on the 17th minute and Donal O’Neill, who received a clever low ball pass into the corner from Henderson, gathered, turned and buried the ball to the St Martins goal at 22 minute mark. A 3rd long rang point from Henderson added to Dicksboro’s tally. Full forward target man Jack Butler opened his account with a lovely “Cian Lynch” style pick up before rounding his man and taking his point. Then in the 24th minute Jack came out on top of a goal mouth scramble, old school style with a clean strike off the ground – Goal!.

Half time Dicksboro 4-6 St Martins no score.

Dicksboro weren’t to have it all the their own way as St Martins regrouped in 2nd half with strong performances from mid-field pair of Dylan Dempsey & Darra Walsh. Tom Henderson was menacing again with 2 well worked points from play before leaving the pitch after receiving a knock to the hand. The 35th & 36th minute saw full forward Jack Butler pile on the pressure and ensure the game was Dicksboro’s as he struck goal twice and put the game past St Martins reach. Centre back Jamie Cassen scored a monster long range free at the 38th minute followed quickly by his first point from play at 41 mins. St Martins hit some form then with 1-2 to no reply from the Boro. Final honours of the day went again to Jack Butler on 58 minutes with the best worked score of the day, hand pass from solid half back Fiachra Kennedy to full back turned mid-fielder Joe Osborne who spotted Butler in space on the left wing, pop pass to Jack who sailed the ball over the bar and sent the Boro on their way to the Championship Quarter Finals. Well done lads.
